Drivers caught speeding could soon be offered one chance to go to a course instead of receiving penalty points.
The Road Safety Authority has told the Irish Independent it would be similar to the system in the UK.
It would give drivers a chance to take the classroom-style course at one of many centres around the country.
That would be offered when the limit is broken within a certain range, and repeat offenders will not be given the chance to attend a second time.
