Lower Charles Street has reopened to traffic this morning following an explosion in a restaurant in the area last night.
Two people were injured in what is believed to have been a gas explosion at the Indian restaurant, Tulsi, in Castlebar yesterday evening.
Emergency services attended the scene.
The injuries sustained were described as “not life threatening” but the injured were taken from the scene last night to Mayo University Hospital.
The blast at the popular, long established Indian Restaurant on Lower Charles Street, occurred around 8.30pm.
Some residents in the area reported hearing a loud blast from the explosion which damaged the roof of the premises.
Those injured are believed to be employees of the restaurant.
The road, which was closed for a time, has now reopened to traffic while the area surrounding the restaurant remains sealed off.
Investigations into the cause of the blast are continuing.
