A man has pleaded guilty to endangering the lives of two people in Galway by driving a car at them during a feud related disturbance in 2023.
20 year old Martin McDonagh, of Scelig Ard, Headford Road, Galway, pleaded guilty to three charges at Galway Circuit Court in relation to an incident at Galway Shopping Centre on September 10 2023.
Mr. McDonagh admitted, according to RTÉ, to intentionally or recklessly driving a car at speed and striking Katie Sweeney, causing substantial risk of death or serious harm.
He pleaded guilty to a similar charge in relation to Andrew Sweeney, and also entered a guilty plea to engaging in violent disorder at the shopping centre on the same date.
Mr. McDonagh was remanded on bail by Judge Brian O’Callaghan, until October 28.
Six others have verbally confirmed signed guilty pleas to offences arising from violent public order incidents in Galway on the date in question.
John McDonagh (25) of Bay 5 Tuam Halting Site, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Galway Shopping Centre on the Headford Road;
Eleisha Browne (30) of Cooke’s Terrace, Bohermore pleaded guilty to violent disorder at St. Finbar’s Terrace, Bohermore;
Derek Ward (24) of Camillaun Park, Newcastle pleaded guilty to violent disorder at a laneway between Galway Shopping Centre and Bohermore;
Jason Ward (19) of Radharc na Gréine, Monivea Road, Mervue pleaded guilty to violent disorder at two locations, Galway Shopping Centre and Circle K, College Road, as well as the production of an axe during the course of a dispute at Galway Shopping Centre;
Lee Ward (20) of Coole Park, Bohermore pleaded guilty to incidents of violent disorder at Circle K, College Road; Galway Shopping Centre, and criminal damage to a car at Galway Shopping Centre;
PJ Ward (22) of Ocean Wave, Salthill pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Galway Shopping Centre.
All have been remanded on continuing bail until the end of October, and are then due back in court.
