Traffic congestion can be expected in Castlebar town centre this morning as Lower Charles Street remains closed off to traffic following an explosion in a restaurant in the area last night.
Two people were injured in what is believed to have been a gas explosion at the Indian restaurant, Tulsi, in Castlebar yesterday evening.
Emergency services attended the scene.
The injuries sustained were described as “not life threatening” but the injured were taken from the scene last night to Mayo University Hospital.
The blast at the popular, long established Indian Restaurant on Lower Charles Street, occurred around 8.30pm.
Some residents in the area reported hearing a loud blast from the explosion which damaged the roof of the premises.
Those injured are believed to be employees of the restaurant.
The street remains closed off to traffic this morning, sending large additional volumes of traffic up through the town’s main street.
Investigations into the cause of the blast are continuing.
