Michael Martin and Simon Harris will sit down for talks on the formation of a new government later.
Both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael have appointed negotiating teams, but the party leaders will kick-off discussions today on how a new coalition might look.
They'll also hold talks in the days ahead with the Social Democrats, Labour and a number of independent TD's.
It's thought it could be mid-January before any new coalition will take power.
