Galway have opened their account in the Allianz National Football League with a win.
The Tribesmen, under floodlight for the first time in Pearse Stadium, beat the All Ireland champions Armagh in a repeat of the 24’ final.
Matthew Tierney got the first half goal for Galway from the penalty spot.
Cillian O Currain got the first two-pointer of the Division 1 campaign, followed up shortly after by doubles from Shane Walsh and Paul Conroy – Galway making good use of the new rules.
It was a disappointing evening for Armagh who went long periods throughout the game without scoring, despite starting well in the game.
Full time score from Pearse Stadium, Salthill:
Galway 1-12 Armagh 0-9
