Burrishoole GAA Club have issued a statement following extensive damage to their club grounds.
Storm Éowyn has left the West Mayo club in very difficult circumstances, but they are determined to rebuild.
Here is the statement in full:
McGovern Park Newport, Home of Burrishoole GAA in West Mayo have suffered extensive damage following the devastation caused by Storm Eówyn, leaving the beloved local sports facility stand in need of rebuild. As a club that has long been a cornerstone of the community, we find ourselves facing an unprecedented challenge.
The storm, which hit the area with powerful winds and heavy rainfall, caused significant structural damage to the stand, first build in 2010. This sudden setback is deeply felt by our club members, volunteers, and the wider community.
Despite the scale of the damage, with the help of our insurance & fundraising, we are committed to restoring our grounds as quickly as possible. It will be a huge undertaking, requiring not only financial resources but also support from the GAA community.
"Our club and community have always been built on resilience, teamwork, and support for one another," said Ed Kirby, Club Chairman, "This is a difficult moment, but we know that we will get through it. The main thing is our club members and community came through the night without harm.
"In the coming days, we will be announcing a series of fundraising events & donation channels, and we encourage all to get involved.
“We’ve built this club and community together, and together we’ll rebuild our stand."
