The Mayo senior ladies have been dealt a blow ahead of the start of the Lidl Ladies National Football League this weekend.
Westport’s Fionnuala McLaughlin has opted out of the panel on a ‘short term’ basis.
The 21 year old was a key player for Mayo last season.
She is currently studying primary school teaching in St. Patrick’s in Dublin City University, and is continuing in the sport of showjumping.
Speaking to the Mayo News, Mayo manager Liam McHale said that it “wouldn’t be practical running and racing and trying to make everything”.
The announcement comes after a number of key players have opted out of the Mayo panel – Lisa & Sinead Cafferky, Ciara & Tara Needham, Eilis Ronayne and Fiona McHale.
Mayo begin their campaign in Division 1 of the National League this Saturday at 2:00pm, when they face Dublin in Parnell Park.
