Castlegar Athletics Club hosted their 29th Open Cross Country event at Galway Racecourse at Ballybrit on September 28.
There were two adult races - women and men o60 ran 6150m, and men 8350. The Open Cross Country was also a leg of World Athletics Bronze Tour.
Mayo AC had eight competitors in the Women's/Men o60 race .
Great running again today by all eight. Five of those who ran in the County Cross Country in Doolough the previous week - Colette, Angela, Mags Donna and Paraic - were joined by new member Katie Gibbons in her first race in Mayo AC vest (recently transferred from Castlebar AC - welcome Katie!), Eimear Fitzmaurice, and Breege Blehein.
Colette Tuohy led the eight home in 13th place overall and 2nd F50. She was one of four who had top three category finishes, with Angela O’Connor 3rd F50, Paraic Sweeney 2nd M70 and Mags Glavey 1st F70. Mags was delighted to turn the tables on Eileen Kenny who finished in gold just ahead of her in the recent National Half-marathon in Charleville!
"The day was perfect. The course tough. Grass quite long in places and so many twists and turns - however, great training for Abbottstown Autumn trials!".
Well done to all eight Mayo AC!
