As Team Ireland continue their success through the Olympic Games in Paris, a man will represent Mayo at the games tonight.
Thus far, Mona McSharry has brought home bronze in the Women’s 100m breaststroke and Daniel Wiffen won gold in the Men’s 800m freestyle.
Kellie Harrington is guaranteed bronze in boxing, while Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan have returned a gold medal in the rowing.
Eric Favors, who has close Ballina connections, will begin his Olympic quest tonight in the shot put.
His grandmother Margaret Kerr came from the North Mayo town, and she lived in New York for over 50 years.
Favors himself comes originally from Rockland County in New York and competes with Raheny Shamrocks in Dublin.
He will be in action at approximately 7:10pm Irish time this evening.
