Mayo AC had five competitors in Sunday’s (July 21) National 10 Mile Championships in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. The 9am race start meant it was another long day for West of Ireland runners.
Over 600 club runners competed for individual, age category and team medals.
The first two Mayo AC finishers were Tony O’Malley in 64:50 -14th in M50 category, and Neil Carroll who ran 64:59.
Tony ran 66:54 in the 2023 race - he improved that by almost two minutes – great running.
Neil was close to his best for the distance - he ran 63:37 in the Roscommon 10 earlier in the month.
Once again this year Pauline Moran was the most successful Mayo AC competitor.
The Newport-based masters champion won gold in W65 in 72:47, another brilliant performance retaining her category title.
Behind her was Mary Browne finishing in 78:59 and a hard earned bronze W65 -five minutes outside her silver medal winning time in last year’s race – however, a creditable return to the roads after her disappointment in last month’s Cork marathon.
Well done also to Paula Donnellan Walsh who was just outside the medals – 4th W45 in 71:53.
The National 10 mile race winner was Keelan Kilrehill Moy Valley AC in 49:56, and first woman across the line was Grace Lynch Dundrum South Dublin AC 56:58.
