Galway have knocked the All Ireland Senior Football champions out of this year’s championship.
Padraic Joyce’s side put on a stunning second half display to dethrone Dublin, winning by a single point.
Despite losing Sean Kelly in the first half and Shane Walsh in the second half, both to injury, the Tribesmen were helped by their bench to push over the line.
Johnny Heaney and Tomo Culhane both came on in the latter stages for Galway, scoring a point each to contribute to the turnaround.
Culhane’s insurance score to put Galway two up was only replied to by one Dublin score as Con O’Callaghan missed a late chance to force extra time.
Galway will no doubt be in recovery mode for the coming days as they prepare Kelly and Walsh for the semi finals.
Armagh are through after beating Roscommon, so they cannot meet in the semi final – but there could be an interesting twist if Derry win today which would see three teams from the one group qualify for the last four.
What happens from there will no doubt be revealed this evening.
