Mayo GAA have confirmed that senior football captain Paddy Durcan has sustained a cruciate ligament injury.
The Castlebar Mitchels man came on as a 56th minute substitute in Saturday’s meeting with Cavan in the first round of the All Ireland SFC Group Stage.
It is understood that the sustained the injury in the dying moments of the game.
Mayo will now be without their leader for the meeting with Roscommon in two weeks.
Stephen Coen took on the mantel as captain on Saturday in Durcan’s absence from the starting team.

Following further medical assessment today, Mayo GAA can confirm that Paddy Durcan has suffered a cruciate ligament injury.
Paddy Durcan is an admired figure throughout the county. Mayo GAA would like to wish him all the very best in his recovery, in which he will be supported by our medical team.
Mayo manager, Kevin McStay, said:
