The Mayo Schoolboys\Girls and Youths AFL had three of its teams in SFAI Inter League Finals held in Evergreen, Kilkenny yesterday Saturday.
First up, the Mayo under 15 girls faced their Galway counterparts in the Cup Final. Mayo recovered brilliantly from being behind to run out deserving 3-2 winners with Doireann Lynch (2) and Katie Hughes with the goals.
The under 13 boys were next up facing Waterford in a Bowl Final and, in a similar scenario to the girls earlier, had to recover from 2-0 down to emerge 3-2 winners with the goals scored by Cillian Keating (2) and Callum Costello.
Last up was the toughest, most evenly contested of all three Finals. This was the under 12 Girls' Bowl Final between Mayo and Kerry. Violet O Malley gave Mayo the lead which they held for a long time before Kerry scored to force extra-time. Two quick fire Lexi Murphy goals saw Mayo 3-1 up only for Kerry to immediately pull one back- all in the opening period of extra-time. There were no further goals and Mayo were victorious on a 3-2 scoreline to seal an incredible three victories from three.
