It was a busy weekend for Mayo Valley AC club athlete Seamus Clarke.
Having been honoured with the Western People "Young Sportsperson of the Year" award on Friday night, he made his way to Dublin early Sunday morning to compete in his first National Senior Championships in the 5000m walk distance.
Seamus crossed the line in 4th place in an impressive time of 21.31min, shaving 41 seconds of his personal best time and setting a new Irish U18 National (track) record in the process.
The record was held by Olympian Jamie Costin, West Waterford AC and had stood since 1994.
Seamus now holds both the road and track National records for the U18 5000m walk.
