Ballyhaunis Boxer Carlagh Peake managed to secure the highly sought after under 18 national boxing title yesterday.
Carlagh travelled to the national stadium with her coaches and parents in search of the holy grail.
Carlagh successfully defeated Jamie O Rourke of the st. Mary’s boxing club New Ross to claim the title at 50kg
Carlagh delivered blow after blow with her coaches Martin Peake and Eoghan Lavin giving her guidance and instruction in the corner between rounds to bring her to victory.
Carlagh, who is a leaving cert student at Ballyhaunis community school is the 1st female ever to claim the title for Ballyhaunis BC and this title was last claimed by a male 15 years ago.
What an achievement
Carlagh dedicated this title to her grandmother (Patsy Gleeson) who sadly passed away in June of last year.
This competition will be used as part of the selection process for the European youths in Croatia in April where Carlagh hopes to represent her country for the 3rd time having previously secured a bronze medal in Tbilisi Georgia in 2019.
Carlagh gives special thanks to her parents Martin and Sue Peake and the team of dedicated coaches that the club has on board.
