Mayo darters had mixed fortunes on day one of qualification for the PDC Darts Tour in Milton Keynes.
Roundfort’s Conor Heneghan was beaten in first round action by Englishman Nicholas Ellis 5-3.
He’ll be back for a second chance to progress tomorrow.
Castlebar’s Ultan McDyer had a more successful outing and advanced to the top 128 of the first day competition.
He won 5-2 and 5-1 against Samuel Palmer and Peter Jacques respectively.
Jacques competed in the 2018 World Darts Championship.
Ultan was later beaten 5-2 by England’s Steve Haggerty.
The Q School of darts has two stages, the latter of which from the 11-14th of January is where you can pick up your card and join the professional circuit.
The first stage which runs until Wednesday offers players the chance to move to the final stage.
This can be done by winning the competition on the given day or by accumulating enough points over the course of the three days.
A point is awarded for each win.
Those that previously had a tour card go straight through to the final stage, such as former world cup finalist with Ireland Steve Lennon.
