Clonmel came out on top today against Ballina in their AIL Rugby meeting.
In a back and forth contest, Clonmel took the lead early through a penalty.
Penalties on the 12th and 20th minute from Cody Chilcott and Darragh Whyte put Ballina in front 6-3.
Clonmel replied with a penalty and soon after, the game’s first try on 40 minutes.
This gave the visitors a 13-6 lead at the break.
Beginning the second half, Ballina soon turned their fortunes around with a try from Cian Quinn, converted by Darragh Whyte to level the tie.
Whyte struck a penalty between the posts four minutes later to put Ballina 16-13 ahead.
A try and conversion came eight minutes later for Clonmel as they restored a four point lead.
Soon after, Joe Murphy crossed over to put Ballina back in front – Whyte dually obliged from the conversions again.
Ballina’s three point lead was short lived as Clonmel got their seven points back to lead 27-23.
In an exciting contest, the visitors came out on top in this AIL clash.
