On Saturday evening (August 12) the 37th edition of the Streets of Galway 8k road race was hosted by Galway City Harriers.
As usual a huge field assembled at Fr Griffin Road. The course took them through the city centre, out into a south westerly breeze along St Mary’s Road to Salthill, and back along the Bay with the wind to the South Park finish.
Race winner was David McGlynn Waterford AC in 24:07.
Íde Ní Dhomhaill Donore Harriers was the first woman home in 26:48 just two seconds better than her winning time last year. Two weeks ago she won the National Senior 5000m title in Morton Stadium in 15:44.
Congratulations to Mayo AC's Norah Newcombe Pieterse who was third woman finisher in a brilliant new PB 28:40. Norah has been in great form this year, as shown in the Elverys Intersport Mayo AC 5k Series in May and in running a 10k pb in the Dunshaughlin in June.
In the 2019 of the Streets of Galway 8k she finished in 4th place in 29:05.
