The 9th Annual Run for Boylo 10/5k races in memory of Martin Boyle took place on Sunday April 23. It was the first time the actual event was held since 2019.
Starting and finishing on the promenade by the banks of the Moy in Foxford, racing conditions good – dry 12°C but feeling cooler. Over 300 runners and walkers completed the two races.
It was great to see an excellent turnout of 25 Mayo AC runners supporting the event.
There was significant success for the club with four prizewinning members among the 6 men’s and women’s podium finishers in the 10k, and a number of personal best finishes.
Sean Hynes (Mayo AC) was the popular local winner of the 10k coming home well clear of the field in an excellent finish time 34:36
Alan Dunne (East Mayo AC) was second in 35:49, and David Naylor (Ballina) third 36:35.
Tadgh Hanrahan Mayo AC finished in fourth place with a great run in 36:50.
Kevin Jennings was the club's third runner home in fifth place 37:32.
Next Mayo AC to finish was Tony O’Malley who was pleased to get back under 40 again with a 39:45 finish.
Ray Clarke was close behind Tony – 9th overall and suitably delighted with his first sub 40 in a 39:51 PB.
In the women’s race Mayo AC led a Mayo AC podium clean sweep with Edel Reilly repeating her 2019 success winning again today in 41:05, a great run showing she is coming back to form following her recent return to racing and her victory in the Tourmakeady 8k the previous week.
In second place Pauline Moran had another phenomenal run coming home in yet another new PB 42:12! – and improving on her National F65 record of 42:20 set in Torún in the recent World Masters Athletics Championships which is awaiting ratification.
Donna Gallagher was equally brilliant finishing third, clocking nearly two minutes better than of previous best 10k in 43:23.
