Mayo have suffered defeat to Meath in the first round of the Christy Ring Cup.
Two Meath goals separated the sides at the end, as Dave McConn and Tom Phillips’ side managed a 0-24 tally.
Star man Shane Boland was replaced after eight minutes into his return to county action for the 2023 season.
Cormac Phillips continued his scoring power for Mayo with 0-12 for the day.
Fergal Boland hit 0-3 as he also returned to inter county action.
Jack Regan scored 1-11 of Meath’s tally and his goal came after 29 minutes to stretch their lead out to four points.
Previous to that, Eamonn O Donnchadha hit the first goal on 21 minutes after the sides were drawn level 0-5 each.
With a four point advantage at half time, Seoirse Bulfin’s Meath were put under great pressure when two points from Michael Farrell brought Mayo back to within a single point with five minutes of normal time remaining.
Regan hit back with two points to ensure a Meath win, as Mayo will hope for victory next Saturday when they welcome Tyrone to Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.
