The Mayo minors got their Connacht campaign off to winning ways against Roscommon in Dr Hyde Park.
Sean Deane’s side won by 12 points, despite a fast start from the home team.
The second quarter was where Mayo kicked into gear, and carried a lead of seven points into the break, 0-13 to 0-6.
Dara Neary hit three points from play in this period, with the half forward line of Colm Lynch, Tommy Lydon and Senan Guilfoyle all scoring.
Gavin Forry got both goals for Mayo, with the first seeing his low effort find the net on 36 minutes.
With ten minutes left, he found his second to put the game to bed.
Roscommon tried to make use of forward players like Niall Heneghan and Ruairi Kilcline to find a goal of their own, but good defensive work from Mayo put a stop to that.
Mayo now have a break next weekend in the round robin format, and Deane’s men head into the round 2 top of the table.
