Shield Final vs St Pierre, Wales
At Hill Valley Resort, Shropshire, England.
The energy had finally drained from our super girls when they took on St Pierre this afternoon.
A fourth consecutive day on the sodden fairways and another all boys team to face was one step too far.
The girls gave their all throughout before succumbing by 5.5 to 2.5.
The Lonergan sisters went down 2/1 and 3/2 respectively in games one and two. Charlie Browne and Emily Griffith both had tremendous games getting a half point each in games three and four. St Pierre got their winning points in games five and six with Sarah Corrigan going down 5/4 and Marykate McHale 2/1.
1.5 of the last 2pts went Westport’s way. Catherine Humphries came from 6 down to get a half on 18 and our Junior Girls Captain, Grace Donovan won the final game of the day.
When all was totted up Westport finished in 10th position in the twelve team event.
The best surprise of all was the surprise announcement that the Award for the Best Girls Nett Player of the week, Charlie Browne of Westport.
This week has put our Club, our Girls and our program in the spotlight to much acclaim.
