Congratulations to Sinéad Diver who has won three titles at the 2022 Connacht Athletics Awards. This is the second year the Awards have taken place.
A panel of over twenty club PROs from the region voted for over thirty titles on a zoom call on Monday last. The first batch of awards have just been announced.
The three Connacht Athletics Awards won by Sinéad are:
Female Athlete of the Year,
Female Road Runner of the Year,
and Mary Cullen Award Distance Runner of the Year (Female/Male)
Last year she won the first two of those titles.
These three awards are well deserved and appropriate recognition by Connacht Athletics for our elite member Sinéad.
The Awards replect Sinéad’s two exceptional achievements in 2022.
This was the Mayo AC nomination citation for Sinéad :
"2022 was another momentous year in the amazing athletics career of Sinéad Diver. In July, the Belmullet native and Mayo AC member finished fifth in the Commonwealth Games Marathon in Birmingham running for her adopted Australia.
On December 4 she finished 11th in the Maratón Valencia in a personal best 2:21:34- a new Australian record – improving her London Marathon 2019 improving her previous best by some 2½ minutes.
Her Maratón Valencia finishing time made Sinead the leading Irish woman over the distance, beating Catherina McKiernan’s 2:22.23 in Amsterdam in 1998.
Sinéad Diver is an inspiration to the nation and we are all so proud of her achievements."
