Twenty Mayo AC runners were in action over the Easter weekend at three locations - Kilmovee, Carney and Boston. The Kilmovee community celebrated their 11th Annual live 10k in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice and Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA on Easter Saturday afternoon. As usual community spirit and brilliant local organization came together once again on a fresh day, 11° and southerly breeze 20kph.
The winner of the 2022 edition of the race was Dan Charlton from Kiltimagh in 33:36, a great time and just over a minute outside the course record.
Dan also won the Michael McDonnell Shield for his school Craggagh NS Kiltimagh.
The first woman finisher was Sinéad Whitelaw Mullingar Harriers AC in 38:28
Third placed senior woman Sarah Byrne (3rd in 2019) was one of four Mayo AC prizewinners on the day. She followed up her excellent third place in the 2022 Tubbercurry St Patrick’s Day 10k with a similar time and placing. Sarah and will be a strong contender in next weekend’s big race the West of Ireland Women's 10k in Castlebar.
Andrew Hayes led Mayo AC’s sixteen finishers home. He finished – 6th overall in 37:21, almost five minutes faster than his 2019 time. He also won the men’s o40 category. Andrew ran a great race the previous week in the National 10k over a more difficult course finishing in 37:29. The F40 winner was Ann McDonnell with another brilliant run and time 46:39. And Mags Glavey followed up her National 10k silver F70 with the F60 category prize in an amazing 47:05.

Easter Monday was the 126th running of the Boston marathon – the world’s oldest and most prestigious. It’s traditionally held on Patriot’s Day – the third Monday in April.
Turlough-based Michael Rocke was Mayo AC's only participant.
He ran 2:53.37 net, 2:56.38 gun. He passed the halfway point in 1:26.25. This and his 5k splits show he ran a very even paced race. His first 5k was 20:40 and he ran 35-40k in 20:43. And 41:16 from 30k to 40k.
Three members competed in the traditional Easter Monday events in Carney Co Sligo – a popular race venue over the years for Mayo AC runners.
In an inaugural half marathon- Sligo’s first ever Padraic McVann came home in an excellent time 1:34.32, in 10th place overall and first M50.
Donna Gallagher W45 also ran a great time 1:44.50, as did Angela McVann W50 who crossed the line in 1:56.36.
The Carney 10k winner was Seamus Somers M45 (Sligo AC) in 32:58 - he also won the last edition of the race 2019 in 33:51. First woman was Linda Lally (North Sligo. 43:26.
