The 2021 Connacht Cross Country Championships concluded with the third leg of the League on Sunday November 7.
The event was hosted by Loughrea AC and Galway Athletics Co Board at Bushfield. Senior, Masters and Novice titles were contested.
Nine Mayo AC competitors represented the club.
They came away with a team gold and four individual medals.
Points were awarded based on finishing places in the three legs.
Eight club members ran 4k on a firm grassy course with a couple of small hills.
Martina O’Connor won gold Novice Women – coming home a brilliant first in all three League races. She will go forward to compete in the National Novice championships in Kilkenny next month.
Mayo AC’s formidable W50 team: Colette Tuohy, Angela O’Connor, Pauline Moran and Noreen McManamon won team gold with a total of 121 points. Sligo AC 132 were second, with Swinford AC 244 third.
In W50 individual, Colette Tuohy won silver and Angela O’Connor bronze, with Pauline Moran 4th and Noreen McManamon 5th.
In W35 category Paula Donnellan won bronze with 13 points . (1st = 9, 2nd = 12). Breege Staunton was also a finisher in W35.
In the same race Tom Hunt won gold in M65 category.
Mike Griffin ran 8k in the senior + masters race, finishing 13th of 31 in the M35 category.
Congratulations to the medal winners and
well done to all who represented Mayo AC in the three legs.
Well done also to Serena Tuffy Ballina AC who won gold in Senior Women.
