Sligo surfers John Monahan, Mark Walton, Conor Mc Carrick and Damien Costello are prone paddling 40 KM across Irish Sea today in aid of two local charities.

The Sligo surfers are raising funds for the North West Simon Community and The Irish Heart Foundation.

They will leave Larne in Northern Ireland and arrive in Stranraer in Scotland.

Prone paddle boards are similar to large surf boards, paddled by hand, lying down or kneeling.

The gruelling 40km Irish Sea crossing is notoriously difficult due to the tidal movement, winds, waves and jelly fish.

The surfers have trained six times a week, including three sea sessions weekly throughout the winter.
