A Mayo surfer has been selected on the Irish team for the forthcoming World Surfing Games in El Salvador.

Castlebar's Rory Tuohy, the current Irish Champion, will be competing alongside some of the best athletes in the world.

Also representing Ireland at the competition are Gearoid McDaid, Oisin Campbell, Grace Doyle and Ayesha Garvey.

The World Games take place from the 29th of May to the 6th of June across the La Bocana and El Sunzal waves at Surf City.

They are the sport's final qualifying event for the 2021 Olympics in Toyko, where surfing makes its debut as an Olympic sport.

The El Salvador event were originally scheduled from May of last year but was postponed due to the Covid pandemic.
