Some 3,000 people took part in the virtual West of Ireland Women's Mini Marathon over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Participants from across the region and beyond celebrated the annual event by walking, jogging or running 10k in their own areas, raising tens of thousands of euro for charities including Western Care, Mayo/ Roscommon Hospice, Mayo Mental Health, Cancer Care for Children, Pieta House, Western Alzheimers and others.

This year's event included 400 teenage girls from a number of Mayo secondary schools who participated in the "It's for Girls" challenge, and 800 primary school children who completed 2k with their families.

The event has been running since 2010, and is organised through the Mayo Sports Partnership, supported by Mayo.ie and the Western People.
