Mayo Comhairle na nÓg is taking part in a fitness and mental health initiative called- ‘Get Counting with Comhairle.’
Mayo Comhairle na nÓg is a youth-led council and its core programme centres on young people identifying, and progressing topics that are of importance to them. Members then carry out projects or try to influence local decision-makers to achieve the desired outcomes.
During the pandemic, they wanted to do something that would encourage people to get outside and get moving and in turn, take care of their mental health and shake off the lockdown blues.
They launched “Get Counting with Comhairle” last month and it runs until this Sunday,14th of March. Participants of the challenge are required to get outside and get moving (walking, running, rolling, it can be anything at all!) as often as they can and then send in how far they travelled each time via google forms. So far they have had over 600 entries. At the end, all participants will be entered into a draw with the chance of winning a Fitbit.
