Mayo’s Oisin Mullin missed out on the RTE Sports awards Young Sportsperson of the Year accolade.

Oisin O'Callaghan picked up the gong after claiming a first ever downhill gold for Ireland at the Junior World Mountain Bike Championships in Austria.

It was O'Callaghan’s first ever race at that level.

The 17-year-old from Limerick followed up his win in Austria with two stage wins at the recently held World Cup competition in Portugal.

Meanwhile, Oisin Mullin remains locked in a head-to-head battle with soccer player Dara O'Shea for the title of Ireland's Young Sports Star of the Year 2020.

The Kilmaine man has had a great year, being one of the young players that is bringing great hope for the future of Mayo football.

He has shown great energy, an attacking threat, and magnificent defending against some of the best forwards in the country.

Also up for the award is Beibhinn Parsons, Saoirse Noonan, Joey Sheridan and Keane Barry.
