Mayo football legend Cora Staunton says the vote to combine the Women's Gaelic Players Association and the GPA is a huge step towards equality in ladies football.

Inter-county players from both organisations have voted to merge into a single 4,000-member body.

The votes took place at separate EGMs last night, with 96% of WGPA delegates voting in favour and 100% of GPA delegates doing so.

Speaking from Perth, Cora Staunton said it's  hugely significant and a monumental day for both associations.
