Mayo have been relegated to Division 2 of the Allianz National Football League for the first time in 23 seasons.

The left themselves with too big of a mountain to climb in the second half against Tyrone this afternoon.

Tyrone started the game the stronger and drove on to register a halftime lead of 2-9 to 0-7.

Mayo did rally in the second half but needed a win as even a draw would see them relegated.

They could not claw the red hands in enough at the finish and lost the game by a solitary point.

It finished in MacHale Park Mayo 1-19 3-14 Tyrone.
