Midwest Radio paid a visit to Fergal Birrane at Killala House Stables to get an insight into the great work taking place.
Fergal Birrane is from Killala and is a licensed trainer of flat and national hunt horses. He has spent his entire life working with horses and is a qualified horse riding instructor. He has produced many horses for show jumping, the show ring, eventing and sales preparation with many years of success winning events.
He has done a lot of hunting and was Chairman of the North Mayo Harriers for 4 years. He had an amateur riding licence and rode mostly in bumpers.
Fergal is passionate about racehorses having considerable experience in sales preparation, breaking and pre-training. He first took out a national hunt licence and had a few runners. He now has a flat licence and looks forward to success with the next generation of racehorses from the historic Killala House Stables dating back to 1893.
Fergal spoke to Michael D about what he’s been up to as well as the virtual ‘Race Behind the Scenes’ week.
