Sligo Rovers overcame Galway United in the club’s first pre-season match ahead of the League of Ireland’s resumption at the end of the month.

Mayoman Mark Byrne scored the only goal of the game to give Rovers the win.

It was the Kilkelly native’s first senior goal for Rovers and the chance was created by fellow county men David Cawley and Jesse Devers.

Former Castlebar Celtic attacker Darragh Reilly got his senior debut having come through the Rovers youth system.

The 16-year-old Parke native and former Republic of Ireland under-16 captain made his first appearance for the club off the bench.

Rovers will play another pre-season friendly next weekend and the new fixture list for the 2020 season is due to be released today.
