History was made this week at the Annual General Meeting of Ballina RFC when Deirdre Whyte was appointed Vice-President of the club. This was a truly historic moment and marks a watershed moment for sport in the area.
Deirdre is the first woman to hold the position and her appointment was greeted with great joy by all in attendance.
Deirdre has had a long and proud association with Ballina RFC and established the first Girls club in Connacht when Ballina took to the field a decade ago.
Under her leadership, the Girls section has gone from strength to strength and is now the most broad-ranging in the province with teams at all age-groups and a senior side also in operation.
