The death has taken place of legendary Galway personality Michael 'Chick' Gillen at the age of 87.

Chick is best known as the founder of the Olympic Boxing Club in Galway in 1988, being the coach of Olympic flag bearer Francie Barrett at Atlanta 1996 and running a successful barber shop on Dominick Street for almost 50 years.

Chick himself was a Connacht champion boxer and went on to train 28 national champions.
