Irish racing faces an anxious wait to learn whether it can make its coronavirus comeback on May 18th, or not until six weeks later.

Ballinrobe Racecourse is one of the major venues across the region who are eagerly awaiting a return to racing in some capacity.

Ballinrobe Racecourse Manager John Flannelly is hopeful that they will be given the green light on the 18th of May but believes the sport will be behind closed doors for some time.

He told Midwest Sport that running races behind closed doors was trialled safely before the tightening of restrictions and that it is important the industry restarts for the economy.
