The New York Senior footballers were scheduled to play Galway in the first round of the Connacht Championship on May 3rd, but the games was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
In place of this the New York Senior football Panel and Management, led by Galway Hurler Johnny Glynn, have decided to Run 1000km in 24hrs on May the 2nd to raise funds for the charity Sláinte2020.
The pandemic across New York State has left many individuals, including family and friends of New York GAA without any source of income.
Five long-established Irish organizations have come together with the inter-county board to provide financial relief for those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, including Aisling Irish Centre, Emerald Isle Immigration Centre, New York Irish Centre and the United Irish Counties.
The collective fundraising effort formed on the basis of togetherness within the Irish community, was entitled Sláinte.
