Micheál Donoghue has stepped down as Galway senior hurling manager.

The Clarinbridge clubman guided the Tribesmen to the All Ireland title in 2017, their first Liam McCarthy Cup triumph in 29 years - and came close in 2016 and 2018 - losing to the eventual champions Tipperary and Limerick by a point each time.

Donoghue spent 4 years in charge of the county and had been expected to continue on in the job - despite their championship exit in June.
