Sligo Rovers honorary treasurer David Rowe believes that the all-island league proposal from Kieran Lucid is a "very intelligent proposition".

Rowe was in attendance with Sligo Rovers chairman Martin Heraghty at the National League strategic planning weekend hosted by the FAI in Abbotstown where the future of the domestic league was top of the agenda.

Lucid has developed a proposal to bring the two leagues, north and south of the border, together into a 14-team Premiership, complemented by two regional Championship leagues, running as an independent entity, yet with the approval of the two football associations on the island.

The proposition has been welcomed by clubs in the IFA in Northern Ireland.
