550 projects are on display at the RDS today for the 61st BT Young Scientist Exhibition.
200 prizes will be awarded this weekend with the overall winner taking home 7 thousand 500 euro.
Creators Dr Tony Scott and Reverend Dr Tom Burke modelled it after American school science fairs they had seen when travelling in 1961.
Dr Tony Scott says he thinks the exhibition has helped Ireland's interest in science.
