A Status Orange Low Temperature/Ice warning has been issued for most of the country this morning, including all of Connacht.
Met Éireann say it will be extremely cold with widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow.
Dangerous travelling conditions on roads and underfoot are expected, along with travel disruption and delays and animal welfare issues.
The warning comes into effect from 8pm this evening, and runs until 10am tomorrow morning.
