A Mayo councillor has called for action to be taken on the amount of derelict properties in the county while some people have been left living in hotels.

Councillor Harry Barrett says extra resources are needed within the council to tackle dereliction and to address the housing shortages.

He says there are over 250 properties on the derelict sites register in the county.

Councillor Barrett also says that more regulation is needed around the use of Airbnb's in the county as there is over 1,000 of them listed in the county for short term lets, but less than 50 long term rentals.
