A man has been remanded in custody in Galway following a serious assault on a woman at a property in Ballinasloe.
According to RTE, Owen Naughton of Loughbaun, Aughrim, Ballinasloe Co Galway, appeared at Ballinasloe District Court charged with assault causing harm to his wife at their home on Monday evening last, the 9th of December.
The court heard Sharon Naughton remains in a serious condition in the intensive care unit at Portiuncula Hospital, and that her condition has deteriorated considerably in recent days.
Mr Naughton made no reply when gardaí formally charged last night.
Gardaí objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charge while Judge Deirdre Geraghty refused bail and remanded Mr Naughton in custody to appear at Harristown District court by video link tomorrow.
