Last night, an Garda Síochána released a statement saying that the investigation into an alleged serious assault in Ballaghaderreen last week does not involve people seeking international protection.
Gardaí received a report of an alleged assault at Main Street, Ballaghaderreen shortly after midnight on Friday last, November 1.
It is understood that a teenage boy was allegedly assaulted in the incident.
Gardaí say that all circumstances surrounding the alleged incident are under investigation, and they are aware that a significant degree of misinformation is being circulated online.
They also advise the public to "be mindful of the fact that those involved in the investigation are children as defined by the Children Act, 2001".
No arrests have been made as of yet.
Furthermore, local Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane has stated that the amount of Gardaí stationed in Ballaghaderreen has almost halved in the last five months.
She received correspondence from the Justice Minister that as of May 31 there were 8 Gadaí assigned to Ballaghaderreen Garda Station.
Now, five months later, there is one Sergeant and four Gardaí stationed in Ballaghaderreen.
Deputy Kerrane is calling for increased Garda resources in Ballaghaderreen following heightened criminal activity over the past number of months which escalated moreso in recent weeks.
She spoke to Midwest Radio’s Rian Bailey, firstly reacting to the misinformation notice published by Gardaí last night on the alleged assault in Ballaghaderreen:
