Over half of adults in Ireland support higher taxes on cars that use petrol and diesel.
Today’s report from the Environmental Protection Agency shows 51% of the population support the proposal.
The greatest support can be found in Dublin, where 62% of people are in favour of higher taxation.
However, not one Connacht county shows a support of over 50%, with the average figure across the province in favour standing at 42%.
46% of people surveyed in Mayo are in support of the higher level of taxation.
Galway is slight higher in favour at 48%, with Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo all below with 40%, 39% and 38% respectively.
The report also shows that 85% of people in Ireland want Government to provide grants to make electric vehicles more affordable.
