Ballina will be a hive of activity from Friday as Ballina Fringe Festival gets underway from the 4th-13th of October. Now in its seventh year, the festival has found its groove as a showcase of arts and creativity from local and international artists.
The Divipassion International Short Film Festival will bring the 15th edition of the festival from Athis Mons, Ballina’s twin town in France, to Ballina. With over 150 submissions, the festival entries include submissions from many of Mayo’s leading short film makers and international submissions from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Another artistic celebration making its way to Ballina is Belfast Print Works’ ‘Nightmares, Dreams and Visions’ exhibition, which marks 45 years of the groundbreaking print studio’s establishment in Belfast. This exhibition is making a pitstop in Ballina en route to Boston, and will run for the month of October at Ballina Civic Offices.
Spoken word returns to Ballina, with Martin Dyar guiding an evening of poetry, reading from his powerful and beautiful anthology “Vital Signs – Poems of Illness and Healing,” where he will be joined by local poetry group, the Ox Mountain Poets.
Bookending the festival are weekends jam packed with live music, theatre and arts installations across Ballina, including the installation of Ballina’s newest Pure Ballina! street art by renowned artist SUFEK.
