The Education Minister says there are powers in place compelling schools to provide for students with additional needs.
Some young people are still without a place for this term, with many families having applied to dozens of schools.
Last week, Taoiseach Simon Harris accused some schools of being reluctant to set up autism classes and said they need to step up.
