The summer here may have been cold and rainy, but globally it was the hottest on record.

The EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service found the average global temperature across June, July and August was point-six-nine above average - breaking the previous record, set last year.

August was also the 13th month in a 14-month period where the temperature exceeded 1-point-5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
